Growing Blood Vessels Outside the Body →
research.gov
An interdisciplinary team of MIT researchers has grown a network of functioning blood vessels outside the body. The techniques developed by the MIT team will aid in growing vascular networks that provide blood flow to biological tissue, which is valuable in regenerative medicine—the development of artificial organs—and the design and testing of new drugs. Ultimately, this research could help save millions of lives.
